May Favourites

I've been trying some new things and loving some old this May. My skin is going through a rough patch from stress and the changing weather but hopefully once we clear swotvac and exams life will be peaceful for the month-long winter break we have from University classes. I had a good May- it was full of good food, fun with friends and some major schoolwork that I'm just praying will produce decent results. (Can you tell I'm in my final year? Eeek. So not ready for the real world but at the same time I can hardly wait until I get there.)

Sweater Weather

Since my last personal post I've been busy doing class readings and attempting to study for finals and taking care of an issue with my Maltese/Shih-Tzu dog Toby so we've had to go to the vet a couple of times. I want to go for a haircut soon and I have a few friends with twenty-firsts around this time of year so that's always good fun. Busy busy busy. And I didn't forget- there's a May favourites coming!

Fun with the film camera. I've got a couple of shots left before I have to take my current roll to Kmart's Photo Center to get those done.

A/W Skincare Solution II

This is the second part of my skincare routine as the follow-up for my first post on my daily skincare routine! This one's about masks, makeup removers and blemish treatments for my combination acne-prone skin in the cooler seasons as it's autumn/winter in Australia now.

A/W Skincare Solution I

This is the first post of two that documents my skincare routine for the cooler seasons this year. This one will be about my daily skincare routine and part two will be about extras like masks and makeup removers. To clarify, I have combination skin, with dry cheeks and an oily nose, that is prone to blemishes subject to usual factors like quantity and quality of sleep, diet, water intake and hormones. I like using a mixture of brands in my skincare routine, varying from French to Asian to what you can find in Mecca Maxima, but I do watch how much I spend as I'm a full-time student without a job so I don't splurge on high-end brands very often. I've spoken about these products in previous posts but I'm posting about it in one big official post as I've got my skincare routine down pat and it involves just a handful of products.

Trialing Trilogy

I recently received this little freebie from a (male) friend (who was completely indifferent about it) and I, on the other hand, was extremely excited to replenish my stocks of Trilogy products because everything I've tried from the NZ brand has been very effective and nourishing (just like fellow Kiwi Antipodes!). Given the adorable tin bauble, I believe this little kit is from Christmastime and it contains miniature samples of 'Trilogy's Favourites'.

Let Me Down Easy

I'd like to think I've learnt to be more discerning in my beauty purchases but it's inevitable that there are some occasions when I'm not 100% won over. This post is dedicated to those products that disappointed, didn't work for me, or were not worth any hype there was.

Dining Fine: 85 Miskin Street

This Saturday we ventured to brunch, which is a rarity because after years of brunching I've become quite immune to the charms of poached eggs, pancakes and waffles that I can easily whip up at home. However, we ate at 85 Miskin Street and enjoyed our meal. I'd heard of 85 Miskin Street a couple of years ago but only visited recently thanks to my brother. My brother discovered Scoopon this year and gifted us with a couple of breakfast Scoopons that he purchased but could not use within the free time he has in his FIFO schedule. We visited on a Saturday morning around 10 am and apart from the treacherous Toowong hills that it's sitting amongst which make parking and manoeuvreing quite difficult, the 85 Miskin Street breakfast dining experience was great.

It's Always Darkest Before the Dawn

We're having a bit of a lull between major assignments and final exams so I thought I'd take the opportunity to post a few photos of what I've been up to when it's quiet on the blog front. I haven't worked this hard academically in my life and considering it's fourth and final year, it's about time I did, huh? The weather's chilling down too, which I adore, and the sunny, crisp days remind me of being in Switzerland on Italian exchange again- right down to the unreasonably warm midday when you have to carry your coat instead of wear it.

Birthday Happy Socks gifted from a friend, L'Occitane Arlesienne and Caudalie Vinotherapie hand creams and sheet masks- Tony Moly ones from W Cosmetics (when I needed to make the eftpos minimum, oh the desperation) and The Face Shop from my sister when she was talked into buying the entire range in a box set from the brand's shop in Singapore. So ready for winter!

Care package for someone's winter sniffles- canned soup, Vicks VapourRub, chewable Vit C, Strepsils, anti-sandpaper tissues and handwarmers.

A Lot of Money

I used to do these 'how much does my makeup cost' posts on an annual basis and I thought I'd pick it up again- I quite like the idea of weighing up how much my face of slap costs and how it compares to what I used to wear. My number went from $150 in 2012 to $202 in 2013. For purpose of this exercise I chose the products that I used when going out to dinner last month, so that it wouldn't just be what I normally wear on an everyday basis because I've been posting about that quite frequently. In actuality I don't normally wear makeup to go to class, to church, out with the boyfriend. Sometimes I feel like wearing it to class, most days I don't.
