Best of 2013

2013 has been an absolute cracker of a year. My second year of studying for a Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning, a year of personal growth and change and one of exciting shifts in perspective and development. This year also bore witness to my makeup and skincare obsession plateauing to a point where I reasoned with myself to only buy things I truly need. I came back from a trip to northern China, had a quick getaway to Singapore in May, and am ending it on a high note with a trip to one of my ancestral provinces in China. I believe this will be the last of the China camp trips, which have been memorable and enjoyable but my sister and I have had enough and will opt to travel elsewhere next year.
Personal recounts aside, I've also enjoyed trying and buying new makeup, skincare and hair care products, and this post will sum up the cream of the crop. Some tried-and-true favourites will have been carried over from last year and most of them will be veterans featured on the blog many a time and some are blatantly obvious if you're a long-time reader so I'll keep it concise.

  1. Lovely faves! You managed to narrow down quite a bit - I think mine will have more than the necessary products but hey I suck at culling. Hope you're having fun in China!

    1. Thank you! Your favourites were pretty concise too! Some standouts just can't be left out!

  2. I bought the Juliet cleanser because of you + Michelle at Eat Paint Sniff Glue. And because it was 25% off. I wanted the Aura mask but it was sold out (???) which was such a bummer because I actually cancelled my Feel Unique order for it on Christmas since I figured I could buy it at the sales here.

I like that I can remember your thoughts on most of the prods here :) It's good that you stick with what you have and like. "Plateauing" has is benefits. I just go through phases. But I'm very cognisant of my disturbing excess. One of my main "beauty resolutions" for the new year is definitely purchasing less. Started out poorly with a trip to Target yesterday for 50% Burts Bees gift sets (plus that Antipodes cleanser...)

    1. I still love the Juliet cleanser- it's the one I fall back to when I'm iffy about trying other cleansers. I only ever buy Antipodes when Myer or DJs has a 25% off sale (and those sales come by frequently!). I'm almost finished with the Aesop Parsley Seed Masque so I might give the Aura mask a go next.
I bought MAC Shy Girl! Finally! But I agree on the purchasing less- because I need to start purchasing more in the clothing and shoes aspects instead lol.

  3. Im putting all those skincare items on my to-buy list - especially Hydraluron, Effaclar Duo and Antipodes Juliet! :) I love your skin and I'm itching to try new ones. Thanks for this super comprehensive list! :)

    1. You're very welcome- it's been a year of good skincare. :)

  4. I need to try out that Laura Mercier powder one day, based purely on how much you and Essiebutton seem to love it. :P That goes for the L'Oreal shampoo + conditioner too. I'm still on the hunt for my perfect BB cream, but I recently purchased Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua at duty free which is AMAZING (tried out post 2013 so couldn't make the post ;)) so I can't help but wear it in the day time instead nowadays. x

    1. Oooh I had a sample of Vitalumiere Aqua and I really liked it but I don't wear foundation often enough to justify it! Bourjois HMS is quite comparable so I'm trying to use up my current bottles of it. At the moment concealer and the Laura Mercier powder make up the perfect summer base for me, topped off with Ben Nye's Final Seal matte setting spray! I've neglected the BB cream for a few months now.
